Catalina Island attracts divers from far and wide with it's clear water and variety of Marine Protected Areas. Many consider Catalina Island to be the best spot in Southern California for diving, with dives varying from easy to advanced. There are many locations around Catalina Island for diving. Divers can expect to see abundant marine life in all forms including kelp forests, giant black sea bass, yellowtail, lobsters, abalone, horn shark, nudibranch, large pelagic species, eels, sheep crab, garibaldi, halibut, leopard sharks, and sea lions. There are a few locations around the island where divers can experience the thrill of exploring a wrecked plane and sunken ships. The Casino Point Dive Park, located on the point just past the Catalina Casino building, is a popular destination in Avalon for divers and is also the base for diving outfitters.
