June 2020 was greatly affected by impacts of COVID-19.

All Arrivals

June visitation decreased year-over-year in all sectors, resulting in a total decrease of 70.3% in passengers over the same month last year.

June’s total in-bound passengers = 32,150, down from last year @ 108,265.  June 2020 was below the three-year average of 84,553 by 62%. June was below the five-year average of 94,857 by 66.1% and the ten-year average of 94,419 by 65.9%.

Arrivals by Sea

People arriving by sea, including private boaters, was 30,384 for the month of June which was down 71.3% from 105,706 last year.

• June Cross Channel passenger counts were down 69.1% year-over-year @ 23,736
• 2000 had the highest volume for the month @ 88,446 passengers
• 2020 had the lowest volume for the month @ 23,736 passengers
• June Cross Channel passenger counts were below the three-year average of 68,754 by 60.9%
• Cross Channel Carriers made up 73.83% of total monthly arrivals

• Cruise passenger counts were down 100% year-over-year @ 0
• The number of Cruise Ships calling on Avalon was down @ 0 vs. 8 in 2019
• 2005 had the highest passenger volume for the month @ 26,335
• 2020 had the lowest passenger volume for the month @ 0
• June passenger counts were below the three-year average of 14,461 by 100%
• Cruise passengers made up 0% of total monthly arrivals

• Private Boater passenger counts were down year-over-year by 3.1% @ 6,648
• 2017 had the highest volume for the month @ 7,256
• 2015 had the lowest volume month @ 5,140
• June passenger counts were below the three-year average of 6,792 by 2.2%
• June number of boats on anchors was down 9.4% @ 115
• June number of boats on moorings was down 3.1% @ 1,652
• Private Boaters Made up 20.68% of total monthly arrivals

Arrivals by Air

Combined in-bound air passenger counts for June totaled 1,819, down by 30.2% from 2019.  

• People aboard planes (Airport in the Sky) was down 10.3% from 1,044
• 2008 had the highest volume of private aircraft passenger counts for the month @ 2,147
• 2020 had the lowest volume of private aircraft passenger counts for the month @ 936
• June counts were below the three-year average of 1,125 by 16.8%
• June people aboard planes made up 2.9% of total monthly arrivals

• People aboard Charter Helicopters was down year-over-year by 45.2% @ 830
• 2018 had the highest volume for the month @ 1,919
• 2020 had the lowest volume for the month @ 830
• June counts were below the three-year average of 1,125 by 41.6%
• June people aboard Helicopters made up 2.5% of total monthly arrivals

Year-to-Date

• Total arrivals year-to-date was down @ 173,268 or 60.25% from last year
• Total arrivals year-to-date fell below the three, five and ten year averages
