If you find yourself visiting Catalina Island during a rare rainy day, you'll find plenty of things to do! We've put together a list of activities to keep your day full of fun.

  • Visit the Catalina Island Museum for Art & History on Metropole Avenue and learn about Catalina's fascinating history. (Closed Mondays)
  • Tour the world famous Catalina Casino. General admission and VIP Backstage Tour tickets are available at the Catalina Island Company ticket booth on the Green Pleasure Pier or at the Casino Box Office.
  • Take in a film at the Avalon Theatre, open on Friday & Saturday evenings.
  • Challenge your group to escape from a Catalina escape room: Catalina Room Escape (daily from 10:00am- 9:00pm - call for reservations)
  • Play video games, table hockey or a game of candlepin bowling at Three Palms Arcade in the Metropole Marketplace.
  • Visit our local Art Galleries: Afishinados Art Gallery on Crescent or Catalina Art Association at the Craft Corner in the Island Tour Plaza.
  • Visit the Avalon Diving History Exhibit located at the bottom level of the world-famous Casino Building – open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm. (Call ahead for viewing)
  • Massage . . . you need no other reason to get a massage at any of our many island spas.
  • Ride the Garibaldi bus for a dry perspective of the city.
  • Peruse a selection of Catalina books from Shades of Catalina, located in the lobby of the Glenmore Plaza Hotel. Or pick up a free book from one of little free library boxes located in Avalon. Rainy days are made for reading!
  • Bring a jacket and umbrella and shop our unique Catalina Island shops on the pedestrian-friendly Crescent, Catalina, Sumner, Metropole, and Clarissa Avenues.
  • Enjoy a snack or meal and watch the rain from any of our cozy restaurants.
  • Take a Semi-Submersible Submarine or a Glass-Bottom boat tour (fish love the rain). Book an Ocean Tour.
  • Get a warm drink from Lloyd’s of Avalon or Scoops, try the “Best Cinnamon Roll Ever” from the Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co., or sample a Catalina Island-brewed beer at the Catalina Island Brew House.
  • Take a walk through the Catalina Island Conservancy's Trailhead building and view their interactive Catalina Island map, browse their shop and have lunch at Topside, located on the second level.
  • Try a Buffalo Milk (Catalina Island's signature adult beverage) at any local bar.
  • Go snorkeling or diving, you are already wet and fish don't care about rain!
  • Visit our local Avalon library, part of the LA County Public Library system, located on Sumner Avenue.
  • Take the Wildlands Express to the Airport in the Sky for a wonderful meal at Airport in the Sky Restaurant and a chance to see bison on the way.
  • Explore the underwater world in a 30 minute virtual "scuba dive" with Akuario's IMMERSED: Ocean Wonders.
