November visitation decreased year-over-year by 18.1% or 14,472 visitors with 65,595 total arrivals.

November’s total arrival count was below the three and ten-year averages by 8.7% and 1.7% respectively. November’s counts were above the five-year average by 4.9%.  Multi-year averages are greatly impacted by COVID-19 related downturns. Cross Channel Counts above include 1,678 arrivals at Two Harbors this year and 1,347 last year.

Arrivals by Sea

Passengers arriving by sea in November totaled 63,318, down for the month by 18.5% from last year.  vis

Cross Channel Passenger counts were up 8.0%, an increase of 3,157 people.  Cross Channel Counts above include arrivals at Two Harbors.

  • 2014 had the highest volume for the month @ 50,949 passengers
  • 2009 had the lowest volume for the month @ 24,262 passengers
  • November Cross Channel Passenger counts were above the three, five and ten-year averages by 5.4%, 6.0% and 4.1% respectively
  • Cross Channel Passengers made up 65.31% of total monthly arrivals

Cruise passenger counts totaled 17,071, down from 35,263.  That’s a decline of 49.0% from 2023 or by 18,192 visitors

  • 2023 had the highest Cruise Passenger volume for the month @ 35,263 
  • 2020 had the lowest Cruise Passenger volume for the month @ 0
  • November Cruise Passenger counts were below the three and ten-year averages by 31.7% and 11.4% respectively, but above the five-year average by 5.1%.

Private Boater Passenger counts totaled 2,504, down by 9.3% from 2,760 last year or by 256 visitors

  • 2019 had the highest passenger volume for the month @ 3,669
  • 2012 had the lowest passenger volume month @ 2,448
  • November Private Boater Passenger counts were above the below the three-year averages by 1.6% and 5.1% respectively, but below the ten-year average by 11.4%
  • Private Boaters made up 3.81% of total monthly arrivals
  • November’s number of Vessels Anchored was down by 19.10% from last year or by 6 boats
  • 2018 had the highest number of Vessels Anchored @ 171

Private Aircraft Passengers (Airport in the Sky) totaled 1,395, down 15.3% or by 252 passengers vs. last year

  • 2015 had the highest volume for the month @ 1,773
  • 2007 the lowest volume for the month @ 1,079
  • November’s Private Aircraft Passenger count was below the three, five and ten-year averages by 13.0%, 13.1% and 8.4% respectively
  • Private Aircraft Passengers made up 2.13% of total monthly arrivals

  • November total website users were below the three and five-year average by 8.3% and 0.6% respectively

  • Book Direct lodging searches were up 41.3% @ 14,159 vs. 10,021 in 2023

Note changes to Book Direct in 2021 resulted in shifting traffic between referrals and searches.  New Google metrics inhibit ten-year reporting in our software.

  • 624 Visitor Guides were transferred from the Visitor Center to Certified to cover shortages, while last year we had 780 guides delivered to the center for the month
