August visitation increased year-over-year by 1.9% with 155,432 total arrivals
August’s total arrival count was above the three, five and ten-year averages by 8.4%, 14.2% and 19.7% respectively. Cross Channel Counts above include 5,128 arrivals at Two Harbors this year and 4,948 last year.

Arrivals by Sea
Passengers arriving by sea in August totaled 151,567, up by 2.0% for the month compared to last year.

Cross Channel Passenger counts were down slightly @ 0.5%, a decrease of 568 people. Cross Channel Counts above include arrivals at Two Harbors.
- 1990 had the highest volume for the month @ 121,064 passengers
- 2020 had the lowest volume for the month @ 64,683passengers
- August Cross Channel Passenger counts were above the three, five and ten-year averages by 7.5%, 9.9% and 13.9% respectively
- Cross Channel Passengers made up 68.61% of total monthly arrivals

Cruise passenger counts totaled 35,078, up from 31,333 last year by 12.0% or 3,745 visitors
- 2025 had the highest Cruise Passenger volume for the month @ 35,078
- 2020 and 2021 had the lowest Cruise Passenger volume for the month @ 0
- August Cruise Passenger counts were above the three, five and ten-year averages by 13.3%, 38.3% and 59.0% respectively

Private Boater Passenger counts totaled 9,844, down 2.7% or by 272 people from last year l

Combined in-bound air passenger counts for August totaled 3,909, up by 1.7% from 3,843 in 2024
Private Aircraft Passengers (Airport in the Sky) totaled 2,049, down 9.2% vs. last year’s total of 2,256
- 2008 had the highest volume for the month @ 2,644
- 2017 had the lowest volume for the month @ 1,575
- August’s Private Aircraft Passenger count was below the three, five and ten-year averages by 3.1%, 2.1% and 1.5% respectively
- Private Aircraft Passengers made up 1.32% of total monthly arrivals

Helicopter Passenger counts totaled 1,816, up year-over-year by 15.4% from 1,573 in 2024
- 2015 had the highest volume for the month @ 2,749

- Helicopter Passenger counts were above the three and five-year averages by 13.5% and 1.7% respectively, but below the ten-year average by 11.0%

- Hotel Occupancy in August was down 0.6% @ 77.4% vs. 77.9% in 2024, according to Smith Travel with seven properties reporting
- Hotel Occupancy was above the three-year average by 2.0% but below the five and ten-year averages by 0.3% and 4.0% respectively
- 2017 and 2018 had the highest Hotel Occupancy for the month @ 86.9%
- 2023 had the lowest Hotel Occupancy for the month @ 72.4%
- Statewide Hotel Occupancy for the month was 71.0%, down 0.2% from 2024
- Nationwide Hotel Occupancy was 64.0%, down 1.3% from last year
- Catalina’s Short-Term Rental Occupancy for August was down by 2.8% @ 70.0% vs.72.0% in 2024, according to AirDNA with 330 properties reporting
- Short-term Rental Occupancy was below the three and five-year averages by 0.9% and 3.5% respectively but above the ten-year average by 13.0%
- 2021 had the highest Short-term Rental Occupancy for the month @ 78.0%
- 2018 had the lowest Short-term Rental Occupancy for the month @ 32.8%
- Statewide Short-term Rental Occupancy was 59.0%, down 1.7% from last year
- Nationwide STR Occupancy was 59%, down 0.7% from last year
- Among our competitive set, both Hotels and Short-Term Rentals ranked 3rd place in Occupancy (high to low)

- August LoveCatalina.com total website traffic was down 13.2% year-over-year @ 99,005 vs. 114,000 in 2024
- August total website users were below the three and five-year averages by 6.6% and 1.6% respectively
- Book Direct lodging referrals were down year-over-year by 35.7% @ 15,039 vs. 23,377 in 2024
- Book Direct lodging searches were down 37.1% @ 28,364 vs. 45,067 in 2024
- Additional Google metrics are now being tracked for users opting to navigate to calls, directions, searches etc., with one year of data now in hand.
Notes: Changes to Book Direct in 2021 resulted in shifting traffic between referrals and searches. New Google metrics inhibit ten-year reporting in our software and favor their own results over our organic ranking. In addition, AI tools are eroding traditional website traffic measures. LoveCatalina.com is being optimized for future AI searches over the next few months.

- Certified Racks @ 0 guides delivered vs 7,344 last year
- Go California Printed Guide orders totaled 259, up from 213 in 2024
- Mail House fulfillment was 0 for both 2025 and in 2024

- Hotel Occupancy January through August 2025 is up 5.1% @ 68.6% vs. 65.2% tracked for the same time period in 2024
- Hotel Occupancy through August is above the three, five and ten-year averages by 3.3%, 3.4% and 1.6% respectively
- Short-Term Rental Occupancy was 58.1%, down 1.1% from 2024 which was 50.5%
- Short-term rental occupancy through August was below the three and five-year averages by 4.4%, 10.4% respectively but above the ten-year average by 5.1%
