Bringing the Island's Best Experiences Under One Roof

New locally owned hub unites Catalina Taxi & Tours and Catalina Divers Supply at a historic Avalon Canyon location

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND — This spring, Catalina's Adventure HQ is opening its doors at 1202 Avalon Canyon Road in Avalon, California — the island's only locally owned, full-service adventure hub, bringing together two of Catalina's most trusted independent operators, Catalina Taxi & Tours and Catalina Divers Supply, under one roof.

Visitors can book guided backcountry tours, arrange taxi and shuttle service to campgrounds and trailheads, rent scuba and snorkel gear, enroll in PADI dive certification courses, shop for unique souvenirs and locally curated goods, and pick up camping supplies — all from a single location staffed by people who know the island intimately.

“Catalina deserves a basecamp that matches the experience of being here,” said owner Christy Harp. “Everything we offer — above the water and below it — comes from more than two decades of living and exploring this island. That’s what Adventure HQ is built on.”

Two Trusted Brands, One Address

Catalina Taxi & Tours brings its fleet and its guides to the Adventure HQ umbrella, offering taxi service throughout Avalon, shuttle runs to Blackjack Campground, Two Harbors, Little Harbor, and interior trailheads, and small-group guided tours of the island’s rugged backcountry. Tour offerings include the family-friendly Picnic Tour, the romantic Toast Catalina experience — a private wine and charcuterie stop at a scenic Pacific overlook — and custom private tours for groups of all sizes. Spanish-speaking guides are available upon request.

Catalina Divers Supply, the oldest dive operation on the West Coast and Catalina Island’s only PADI 5 Star Dive Center, joins the Adventure HQ family with many of its services available at the new Avalon Canyon Road location. Guests can enroll in PADI certification courses at any level, book guided dives or a first-time scuba experience, and purchase dive and snorkel equipment from a staff of working divers with deep familiarity with Catalina’s kelp forest — one of the most biodiverse diving and snorkeling environments in North America. Divers should note that both the Catalina Divers Supply Dive Center at the historic Casino building and the dive shop on Avalon’s green Pleasure Pier will continue operating as well, ensuring that guests across Avalon have convenient access to gear, air fills, expertise and experiences right at the water’s edge.

A Location With History

The building at 1202 Avalon Canyon Road carries its own chapter of island history. Originally constructed by Los Angeles County as an interpretive center dedicated to Catalina Island’s natural history, ecology, and culture, it was later operated by the Catalina Island Conservancy as a place for visitors to learn about the island’s remarkable land and wildlife. The mission of the space has always been to help people connect with Catalina. Catalina’s Adventure HQ is the next expression of that same purpose — now sending visitors out into the island’s canyons, kelp forests, and ridgelines with the gear, the guides, and the knowledge to experience it firsthand.

Rooted in the Community

Owner Christy Harp has lived on Catalina Island for more than two decades, exploring it above the waterline and below through every season it delivers. Her commitment to the island extends well beyond business — she is an active member of the Avalon Rotary, a supporter of the Catalina Island Museum for Art & History, and a leader of the Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup, an ongoing effort to keep Catalina’s legendary waters as pristine as the marine life that depends on them.
